This past week was a busy week for my third graders. We finished our first story and had our fist spelling, vocabulary, phonics and comprehension test. We also continued to work on our early multiplication concepts. The kids learned how to multiply using grouping, number lines and arrays. We also worked on a small science unit where we compared living and non-living things. Brain Boosters also started. The kids were excited to go to PE, art, computer lab and library. Next week we will be reading our next story, What About Me? Look for the spelling list and vocabulary list on Tuesday. We will continue to work on early multiplication concepts. Our class will also start keyboarding. Next week is SOAR week. This year the school is doing an Olympic theme. Tuesday, the kids are supposed to dress in the colors of the country they were routing for during the Olympics. Wednesday, the kids should dress up like their favorite Olympic sport or athlete. Thursday, wear sun hats and bring water bottles. Friday, wear the Olympic colors: blue, black, red, yellow, green and/or white. I have added my class to the Pearson Realize site. You can access our Reading Street materials at home. Also, I have added all of the students to the Reflex math site. You can also access this from home. I encourage all of you to utilize Reflex math for extra math practice. I will assign Reflex math for homework from time to time. Please let me know if you have any questions using these sites. It was wonderful seeing many of you at Back to School Night. If you were unable to attend I just want you to know about a couple of things. First, I will be doing a program in our class called Mystery Readers. This is an opportunity for parents to come in the classroom and read to the students. This will happen on Fridays starting in October. We won't tell the kids who is coming in and therefore it will be a surprise for the students. I still have a lot of open spots, so let me know if you would be interested. I will also be utilizing parent volunteers in my class this year. I haven't completely worked out all of the details, but if you are interested please let me know. Many of the students are forgetting to bring their planners to school. Please remind them to bring them to school. I also want their planners signed each night. This is another important way for us to communicate. Your kids are fantastic and I look forward to our week! Ms. O I was born and raised in Utah. After I graduated from the University of Utah, I lived in California, Texas, Pennsylvania and Hawaii. I am happy to be back in Utah. I enjoy paddle boarding, cooking, hiking, skiing and running. I have two adorable kids who keep me pretty busy. I love Mexican food and coffee. This is my third year at Sunrise and I am so happy to be a part of the Sunrise community. Third grade is my favorite grade! Archives
