It has been a busy new year so far! We started a new science unit on the Earth and the Moon. We have been working in our interactive notebooks and doing some fun in class activities. We will continue on with the unit next week. We did an activity where the kids worked with partners and each took turns pretending to be the sun, as the figured out how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the moon orbits around the Earth. We also talked about and watched a neat video about lunar eclipses and the blood moon. We also had a class discussion about star trails and I showed the kids a time elapse video of how the stars look as the Earth moves. I also introduced a new program to our classroom. I have been working with the kids on Adobe Spark. They really love it! I've started out by having them make short videos. This past week, I had them make videos about our vocabulary words. The kids searched for pictures that depicted the vocabulary word and put them in a short video. The kids got really creative, by adding music and other graphics. I have decided that instead of the usual vocabulary definition worksheet we do every week, I am going to have the kids create a project using Adobe Spark. This was a lot more engaging than a worksheet(LOL). I also gave them an opportunity to share in small groups. I also noticed that kids were a lot more confident with their vocabulary words this week! We ended our week with an interesting assembly about bald eagles. The kids loved learning about these amazing birds!! Here are some pictures from the past couple of weeks!! Comments are closed.
