Last week was SOAR week and the students took part in several SOAR activities throughout the week. We discussed all of the ways they can SOAR throughout the year and be a positive part of our school community. This week our story is Kumak's Fish. Our question of the week: How can we achieve goals? We will be discussing the different ways they can reach their goals. The class will also learn how to sequence when discussing the plot of a story. Also, we will discuss the importance of visualization when reading a story. The students should be able to use details of what they are reading to describe how things may look, feel, smell or taste. The phonics pattern is word endings: -ed, -ing, -er, -est. This week we will start division. The students will work on separating numbers into equal groups. They will also learn how to divide by using repeated subtraction. On Thursday we have our field trip to This Is The Place Heritage Park. I know that the kids are excited and it should be a great time. A big thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to be chaperones. Joni Anderson will be coming with us. I have a couple of activities that we will be doing in class in order to prepare the kids for the field trip. These activities will revolve around what life was like living in an early pioneer community. In October I will have my math and reading groups set and will be asking for parent volunteers to help in the classroom. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. I am still looking for more parents to volunteer for my Mystery Reader program. The PTA would still like more parents to sign up. The PTA is the best way to help the school! Parent/ Teacher conferences are coming up on September 28th and 29th. Sunrise would like to have 100% attendance. Thank you to the parents that have signed up. If you haven't signed up, please do as soon as possible. Let me know if you can't make any of the available times and we can set something up for another time/day. The Book Fair will also begin on September 28th. Last week we discussed how trading with friends can help us learn more about them and ourselves. I had the students write a paragraph discussing this topic. They also had to illustrate a picture that depicted their writing. Below are some highlights: I hope you all have a fantastic week!

Ms. O I was born and raised in Utah. After I graduated from the University of Utah, I lived in California, Texas, Pennsylvania and Hawaii. I am happy to be back in Utah. I enjoy paddle boarding, cooking, hiking, skiing and running. I have two adorable kids who keep me pretty busy. I love Mexican food and coffee. This is my third year at Sunrise and I am so happy to be a part of the Sunrise community. Third grade is my favorite grade! Archives
