Ms. O's Third Grade

Last week was a busy week in our class. We went on our field trip to This is the Place Heritage Park. We did have a slight detour getting to the park. Our bus broke down and we had to wait for a replacement. It was a little crazy, but I was so proud of my class. The kids followed the safety rules, listened to the person in charge (me) and kept their cool. I was impressed with how they handled the situation! When we did get to the park, the kids had a great time. We learned about what life was like for people living in early pioneer communities. The kids enjoyed getting outside and exploring the park. This week we have a lot going on in our class. On Wednesday, we will be taking our unit one math test. We will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing and preparing for the test. This week our story is Supermarket. The kids were given their spelling and vocabulary words on Friday. Since it is a short week, we will take the test this Thursday. We will be focusing on long vowel patterns: ee, ea, ai, ay, oa, and ow. We will also discuss multiple meaning words and compare/contrast. I am excited that we will be working with our class Chromebooks this week. I will also be putting the kids in their bookclub groups. I look forward to reading their bookclub journals and listen to their discussions on their at home reading. I am also going to work with the kids on writing. I will be giving them a writing prompt and a four square chart to help them complete their paragraph. Don't forget that we do not have school on Friday the 23rd. Also, picture day is on Thursday the 22nd. If you did not sign up for a parent/teacher conference time, one will be assigned to you. If you need to make special arrangements to meet with me, let me know and we can schedule a time to meet. The book fair starts on September 28th and Grandparents and Goodies is also on the 28th at 7:30am. There will not be any school on September 30th. It's going to be a busy couple of weeks!!
